PDO THREADS
NON-SURGICAL SKIN REJUVENATION & NATURAL LIFTING
PDO threads are absorbable medical threads made from polydioxanone (PDO), a material that has been widely used in medical sutures. When placed beneath the skin, the threads gradually dissolve while creating a local tissue response that may support collagen production and skin remodelling.
PDO threads come in different forms and can be used for different purposes. Barbed or cogged threads are designed to engage the tissue and create a mechanical lifting effect, while smooth threads are primarily used to improve skin firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality.
I use smooth PDO threads rather than barbed or cogged lifting threads. Depending on the treatment area and individual needs, I may use different thread configurations, including mono (single) threads, twin threads and screw/spiral threads.
Smooth PDO threading begins with careful planning of the thread pattern according to the treatment area and the desired outcome. The threads are pre-loaded onto very fine needles. Each needle is gently introduced into the subcutaneous layer and guided parallel to the skin surface. Once the needle is withdrawn, the PDO thread remains in place within the subcutaneous layer.
Depending on the treatment area and individual needs, dozens or even hundreds of fine threads may be placed according to the planned pattern. This creates multiple points of controlled local stimulation rather than mechanically pulling or repositioning the tissues.
As the threads gradually dissolve, they may support collagen production, tissue remodelling, skin firmness and elasticity, helping the skin become tighter and more resilient over time. This increased firmness can also create a subtle lifting and refining effect, while maintaining a natural appearance.
Unlike conventional barbed or cogged thread lifts, smooth PDO threads do not mechanically pull or reposition the tissues. Instead, their primary purpose is to improve skin firmness and quality, which can
in turn create a subtle, natural-looking lifting and refining effect.
The choice of thread type, number, pattern and placement is tailored to your individual needs, treatment area and desired outcome.
The aim is natural-looking rejuvenation
— firmer, more refined and subtly lifted skin without an obvious or over-treated appearance.
